The Department of Electromechanical Engineering discusses a master’s thesis entitled: Designing Electricity Generating Turbine System Depending on The Tides and Steady-State Flow
The Department of Electromechanical Engineering discussed a new master’s thesis by student Saja Hakim Hameed, supervised by Prof. Dr. Muhannad Zidan Khalifa and Asst Prof. Abdul Jabbar Awaid Hanafish. The research aimed to manufacture a hydroelectric turbine that generates electrical energy by taking advantage of the tidal phenomenon in the port of Umm Qasr in south Iraq. An electricity generation system is chosen based on an Archimedes screw turbine
The thesis included an introduction to hydroelectric turbines and a study of the design of the Archimedes screw turbine using a genetic algorithm. Then, on the practical side, it included manufacturing a laboratory model to conduct its practical evaluation and address its various problems, such as stability, displacement of impurities, and control of corrosion and oxidation underwater to obtain the best performance
The discussion committee consisted of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Abdel Razzaq Yas, the committee chairman and membered by Asst. Prof. Dr. Nazhat Saeed Abdel Razzaq, Lect. Dr. Wajdi Rasheed Ismaeel
The discussion concluded with the student being awarded a Master’s degree with a Very Good grade
